NOW THAT YOU'RE ON FIRE
LET LIFE BEGIN AGAIN, NOW THAT YOU'RE ON FIRE

Leaving the laptop and conversation open, Grace rolled over on her bed off her stomach, feet planting on the hardwood floor beneath her. After a quick glance in the mirror, she smoothed out her bubblegum pink t-shirt that was printed with a cute picture of Minnie Mouse. Delaney would be over shortly, so it would be best to straighten up the place. Anna and Richard were both at work and Dakota was at soccer practice. Even though it was three years since Colton had died, she still missed him being in the house. With a small sigh, she walked over to her dresser and picked up her lip shine, applying it gently over her lips. The silver cap screwed back on with ease. Three years really wasn't that long. It had been seven since the death of her parents. Though she had come to accept it, it still felt weird without them, she still missed them. Feet softly landed on the floor, moving across the house to the front door, where Gracie slipped on her sneakers. The door unbolted and she walked out to grab the flyers off the porch, before heading back in. They were set on the side table in the living room. The dark blonde headed back into the kitchen and put on the kettle to make herself a tea.
Once the water was in the kettle and the kettle was plugged in, she moved into the living room where the pillows were laying all about. It was an impluse to move towards them and properly place them on the sofas. Grace quite enjoyed cleaning, as odd as that was. Though she had to be in the right mood to clean, it didn't feel too much like a chore. Then it was over to the movie collection. Her dark chocolate brown eyes scanned over each title, but in the end, she decided to wait for Delaney to pick. Whistling coming from the kitchen caught her attention. The kettle was finished. The tea bag was already in the mug, now boiling hot water was poured in as well. Letting it sit for a few minutes, Grace moved back upstairs to her room. The music on her laptop was still playing softly, though the song had changed. When she had left the room, Lost by Michael Buble had been on. Now We Need Each Other by Sanctus Real wafted over the speakers. Biting her lip, she tried not to think of Dakota, though it was hard. So she quickly checked to see if anyone else had messaged her, and once no one had, she shut the laptop rather swiftly. Taking a deep breath, she left the room again and went back down the stairs.
It was hard, knowing how she felt about Dakota. He was her best friend and had been since they first met. Was it weird though? That was the one question she kept asing herself. It wasn't like they were brother and sister. No, not at all. She had never thought of him that way. Grace didn't even think of Anna and Richard as parents, just the people she lived with really. They had never formally adopted her, she didn't share the last name. But she did live with them. She lived with her best friend. The guy she was in love with. Shaking her head, a sigh escaped her lips. The tea was ready, warm and delicious. The tea bag was removed with a spoon and thrown into the trash. Taking the warm mug in her hands, Grace moved into the living room and crashed on the couch. It was quiet, and she didn't like that feeling. So she flipped the television on for the time being. Dee would be coming soon, they didn't live to far away from each other. A music video was on for You're On Fire by MxPx, a band that Grace would listen to once in awhile. The music was so fun and upbeat, she couldn't help but smile and sing along. With her head bobbing around, mouth flying along with the words, she contently waited for her friend to arrive.
