---------------------------------------------------------------I HOPE IT NEVER ENDS I HOPE it lasts forever but when it does we can all pretend that it's been BETTER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN --------------------------------------------------------------- He asked. Jason already had made plans for Stella to come over a little later. "Well, Stella is coming over later, but we can do whatever you want until noon." Jason answered her son, putting their bowls into the dishwasher. Chris decided to do what he loved to do. Jason could have guessed this. Video games. Jason and Chris sat in beanbag chairs for an hour straight playing Midnight Club: Underground. Probably Chris's favorite racing game they owned. Jason let Chris win a couple of rounds, but as soon as he got cocky, JD would lap him. Chris never got discouraged though, Jason taught him good sportsmanship. He basically taught Chris everything that his father didn't teach him. He also didn't pressure Chris to win all the time like his father did. Chris loved basketball just like his dad. He would even tag along sometimes when Jason coached the high school team in late fall and winter. The team loved Chris, he was like their little mascot. Chris put down his remote. Let's go play outside. One on one? Chris said grinning. JD chuckled and nodded. Chris sped out of his room and seconds later you heard the front door open and close. Jason got up and walked out of his son's room. He wondered how Chris had even gotten his shoes on that quick. Jason walked to his driveway to see Christopher already taking shots. He lowered the adjustable basketball hoop so it was easier for Chris. Being 6'2, JD could easily get the ball in the hoop now that it was at eye level to him, but it was just like video games. He went easy on Chris until he got cocky. "First one to ten wins, alright?" Jason said, checking the ball to his son. Chris nodded and dribbled the ball. He ran through his father's legs with the basketball dribbling by his side and took the shot. That was two points. Jason laughed. That was a good stragedy, but Chris had done it before. Although it didn't work as good as it just had. "Make it, take it." Chris said. Jason nodded and smiled. He hadn't even taught Chris that saying. It was probably from the guys on the basketball team. That game lasted about a half an hour. Chris ended up winning. Jason brought him inside on his shoulders. He put him down once they got in the kitchen. "Alright. Now you gotta go shower. Stella will be here soon." Jason said. Chris gave out a big sigh but went upstairs. While Christopher was in the shower, Jason straightened out the house a little bit. Then, he thought of what he could make for lunch for the three of them. Jason did like Stella, but she was young. He wasn't sure if he could have a real relationship with her. He didn't want to toy with her or anything, but he tried to not show any feelings for her. But that never worked, so they both knew they liked each other. He didn't want to have 100 girlfriends and get Chris's hopes up for finally having a mom. It wasn't fair to his son, and JD knew it. Jason finally decided on some pizza. He ordered a large pizza, have cheese half pepperoni. It wasn't the most romantic thing, but they did have a 7 year old with them today. Chris came down fully dressed and even had his favorite pair of checkered vans on. Jason took him upstairs to spike his hair up like Christopher liked, then got himself in the shower. Once he was out, he picked out his outfit and slipped it on. He heard the doorbell rang, and thought it was Stella. Then he remembered he had ordered pizza. He ran downstairs and answered the door before Chris did. He payed for the pizza, then stuck the box in the oven to keep in warm. He obviously didn't turn the oven on, though. He went upstairs, and continued getting ready. He finished with two sprays of cologne on himself and he was ready. Then, he heard the doorbell ring again. Now, that must be Stella. He walked down the stairs to answer the door, but Chris beat him this time. "Hey. My dad is upstairs, you can come in though. I'm watching Spongebob." Chris said once he opened the door. Jason silently laughed to himself and walked towards the door. "Hey, come in." He said with a smile as he moved to the side and let Stella in. [/ul] --------------------------------------------------------------- stella !word count ehh. !banner .. at CAUTION 2.0 !credit FASHION STATEMENT SUICIDE at CAUTION 2.0 !lyrics lupe fiasco !noteshi. :] outfit ![/ul]

Stella sighed, her eyes drifting over the road distractedly. She was headed over to Jason and Chris's house. She smiled slightly. Chris was so sweet - Jason had raised him well. Pushing her hair out of her eyes, Stella turned onto the narrow street where they lived. The house was nice, and she knew it well. Pulling up to the curb, Stella sat there for a moment, yanking teh keys from the ignition. Her relationship with Jason was very confusing. She liked him - he was caring, and compassionate, and he was a determined person. She liked that he was strong. But she wasn't sure at all how he felt towards her. She was sure he didn't like her at all as more than a friend, so Stella hid her feelings and stuck to looking at Chris, instead of meeting Jason's glances. Biting her lip, Stella climbed from her truck - a large all black dodge truck that she loved to death - and jumped down from the railing ( it was a very tall truck ), and walked slowly up to the door.
Running her fingers through her hair, Stella knocked, waiting a moment before the door opened. She had expected to be looking up, but instead looked down at Chris. Dad's upstairs getting ready. She smiled at him, kneeling down to his height. " Well, believe it or not, i came to see you. How are ya, big guy? " A pair of feet landed in her view and she looked up at Jason with a smile. " Hey. " Straightening up moved past Jason, turning back to them as she stepped inside. " So, what have you boys been up to? " She could see a few of the game console controllers were still out, which meant they had played for a bit. She was a bt disappointed she had missed that. Stella was notoriously good at video games.
Running a hand through her hair, Stella looked at Jason. " Have you guys had lunch yet? " She always tried to make sure they were both taken care of - Jason was a great father, but stella just always wanted to make sure. That's just how she was. the house was a bit cleaner than usual, which surprised her. There was always a little bit of clutter somewhere. Stella looked back to Jason, trying to read his face, curious. Her heart thumped slightly as she looked at him, and she averted her gaze very quickly. She didn't like the feelings he instilled inside her. The wierd butterflies that liked to flood her throat everytime she looked at him.
that scared her a bit. She didn't like not knowing things. And she didn't like not knowing why she liked him soo much. She just didn't usually fall for guys easily - she didn't trust anybody. But Jason had quickly earned her trust and affections. Chris had helped along with that. And soon Jason and Stella were hanging out all the time. And sure, she had tons of guy friends she hung out with, but none of them could render her speechless and make her blush bright red by just telling her hello. She almost wanted to be angry with him for how he was making her feel, but no. she couldn't. she liked him too much.

---------------------------------------------------------------I HOPE IT NEVER ENDS I HOPE it lasts forever but when it does we can all pretend that it's been BETTER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN --------------------------------------------------------------- He said with a nod. Chris loved hanging out with his dad. If it was his decision, he would stay home and not go to school. He would just learn to play basketball and go into the NBA. His dad said that he could do whatever he wanted, as long as he never gave up. Chris wanted to become a better basketball player than his dad. Jason opened his mouth to answer Stella, but again Chris beat him to it. "You know, guy stuff. The boy said, crossing his arms. Jason had to laugh. He shook his head. "We played video games and some basketball outside." Jason answered, closing the front door and turning around to face Stella. That's what I said, guy stuff. Chris said simply, walking into the living room. Jason just shook his head and smirked. The one thing he couldn't get Chris to understand was that girls could do anything a guy can do. He didn't really know where he got the impression that girls were so weak. It was probably the basketball team again. Damn those boys. He shook his head when Stella asked if they had lunch yet. He could tell she was more worried than curious about it. He knew Stella would always be looking out for them. "Not yet. We were waiting for you. I ordered some pizza, you hungry?" He asked, beginning to walk straight ahead into the kitchen. He made a hand motion telling Stella to take a seat at the island in the middle of the kitchen. He fished through the cabinets, grabbing plates and cups. He set them down on the island, then grabbed the pizza box out of the oven. Jason called out Chris's name and told him to come eat some pizza. Pizzaaaa! Chris cheered as he slid into a chair next to Stella. Jason placed the plates in front of everyone followed by the cups. "What do you guys wanna drink?" Jason asked Stella and Chris as he opened the fridge. "Pepsi, please." Chris answered, making sure he used his manners like his dad taught him. Once everyone had their drinks and pizza, Jason stood up across from Stella and Chris. It was easier to talk to them this way. He took a bite out of his pizza. It was still really hot, which he liked. Once he swallowed that piece, he looked up to face Stella. "So, what's up with you?" He asked leaning on the island. Jason smiled softly at her. He was glad she was here, she just made him happy. She always did. But it was that dangerous feeling that made him nervous at the same time. Stella was such a sweet girl and he could tell she really care for him and Chris. Which was why he knew he couldn't get serious with her. He didn't want to hurt her, but at the same time, he didn't want her to go away. Chris really liked her too and he didn't want Chris to wonder where she went. He also didn't want Christopher growing up remembering how many girls daddy went through since he was a little kid. I mean, he was seven. He would remember things that would happen from now on. That's what i said. Guy stuff. Stella grinned at Jason, and turned to chris, who was already retreating. " You know, i was top scorer on my high school basketball team, thank you very much. And i bet i could beat you at Halo. " Stella was fairly unusual to "normal" girls. She was a bit of everything - she was a video game playing nerd, she was a basketball and soccer playing jock, she was the bookish prep, and she was sexy girl next door. She knew how to work her personality and her looks - but never against somebody. Stella just wasn't that way. Not yet. We were waiting for you. I ordered some pizza, you hungry? Stella smiled at him. " I'm always hungry. " Which was true. And Stella was not one of those girls who was afraid to eat - that was ridiculous, what some girls did. Everybody needed food, and if you were going to eat food, screw the salads. Burgers were soo much better. She followed them into the kitchen, sitting in the familiar spot near the island, watching as Jason set the pizza on the counter.
What do you guys want to drink? Ordinarily, if there wasn't a child around, Stella would have asked for a beer, but she knew she wasn't supposed to be advertising bad habits to a kid, so she just replied " a Dr. Pepper, if you have one? " That was pretty much the only soda she could drink that didn't make her sick. And water was okay after you had run ten miles - not with pizza. Pushing her hair out of her eyes, Stella watched Jason with interest - she was stilled confused about them. They weren't together. They weren't apart. She liked him, and had know idea how he felt about her. And Stella hated not knowing things. It sucked. She hated surprises. And if this surprise sucked, she would probably men forever. Okay, maybe not that long, Stella. Well.. maybe, No! Jeez. There are plenty of people out there who don't have anybody to talk to you have grace and jacob.. ick. no not jacob. you have emerson.. So she listed the people she cared about in her head to keep from feeling sorry for herself.
that was just one more thing about Stella. She tried never to feel sorry for herself. She tried to be selfless - there were tons of people with much less than she had, and if she only thought of herself, the world would never get a step closer to being good. Stella didn't like being selfish - and was very rarely so. She tried so hard to be a good example for Chris and everybody else. She knew it was what her parents would have wanted her to do. At the thought of her parents, Stella's throat closed up, and she hid the tears sparkling in her eyes, wiping them away quickly. She was such a wimp. She didn't like feeling weak. Well, Stella, you don't like a lot of things. Shut up, brain. She noticed Jason glance up, and composed herself. So, what's up with you? She misunderstood, thinking he meant the tears, but then realized he had meant something entirely different. " Well, i just got back from a record company. they asked to check out my music, so i played live for them, and i have no idea what to think. "
Her eyes widened earnestly, because she honestly didn't. Music was Stella's life - it was what she was good at, and it was what she loved. She loved making others happy, she loved feeling the rush on stage, she loved the hype of the crowd, no matter how small. The loved the music itself. Stella realized she hadn't yet gotten a piece of pizza, but she wasn't hungry - she was far too nervous about the record deal to eat, which was unusual - just a minute before she'd been starving. She grabbed a slice of pizza anyway, nibbling on it a bit. Instead of looking at Jason like she wanted to, Stella watched Chris, an involuntary smile pulling across her mouth. She couldn't help it. Stella adored the kid. And Jason. not that she would ever admit it unless he did first. Stella, without meaning to, glanced at Jason, then flushed. Crap. She had just blushed. Stella NEVER blushed.... well except for that one time with Daemon in the library, but that was because he was practically stalking her, and he had been listening to her speak french, which had seemed far too intimate to her. She hadn't even spoken french to jason before, though he knew she spoke it because she'd tried teaching Chris a few times.
With a sigh, Stella set the piece of pizza down gently, fiddling with the coke can. Her eyes widened. " What if i don't get a deal? What if.. " She frowned. " Okay, there are plenty of people without record deals who are happy. " Then she realized she'd actually said that out loud, and the blush started to creep up her neck - now she was extremely embarrassed. She bit her lip and ducked her head, hiding her eyes - she never gave herself pep talks out loud - she usually sounded crazy when she did that. How many people walked around telling themselves that other people had suckier lives than she did? Yeah, not many people. Letting her hair create a dark curtain over her scarlet face, Stella played with a thread on her shirt, then realized this wasn't like her either. Stella didn't get shy. She never faltered - she was fearless. She was confident.
She felt a sudden and random flash of anger to Jason. How the hell did he make her feel this way, when nobody else could? How dare he? Why did he have to make her knees weak when she saw him, and my her throat flood with butterflies when she said his name? She hated him for that. Well, she didn't have him but she- SHUT UP, BRAIN. Now she was angry at herself for letting her feelings get in the way of who she was. Wow, that makes a lot of sense, smart one. Let him get to you. A bout of determination wound Stella's mind, and she looked up, the blush gone. She tried not to glare at Jason - it wasn't his fault he was so like able. So instead she pointed to tiny plant in the windowsill that looked like it was about to die. " The point of having a plant is to keep it alive. It needs water. " She was surprised they even had a plant in the house. They were guys after all. Guys just didn't.. have plants.
Stella jumped off the stool, walking past Jason - giving him a little more space than needed, for her own sake, and watered the plant, picking off the dead leaves - which left one sad little stem, so she decided she would just plant i in their front yard or something. At least give it a chance at life that lasted longer then six days. Setting it back in the sunlight, Stella stayed at the counter, where she stared out a window thoughtfully. Suddenly her face lit up - she had just thought of the perfect lyrics. She was so random sometimes. She jumped past Jason and Chris, racing to get her bag where she had left it by the door. She always had scrap paper in her purse - or at least she thought she did. She tapped her sharpie against her chin hurriedly, and, before he could lose the oh-so perfect words that were fading from her mind, she stuck out her arm and began writing. At the very last word her mind went blank and she went skittering back into the kitchen. " What's another word for empty? " Her eyes were wide, the sharpie uncapped, ready to write. Ah, the randomness of a writer.
She had these fits of inspiration alot. She'd have them anywhere - once she had it in a gas station, and the cashier thought she was insane when she asked for a "gum wrapper or something to write on PLEASE?" He just stared at her until she gave him a glare and stalked off. She tried so hard to catch all of the words - because each dynamic set of lyrics led to a new song, and that pretty much led to Stella's happiness - anybody close to Stella, anybody who'd known even for just a little bit, knew to give her what she needed when she got inspiration. Because she was a whirlwind when that happened. She got impatient and cranky ( she couldn't help it, people were so slow sometimes! ) or she just stayed quiet for hours until she found the perfect combination of words that flowed like silk. Now, she was more in the silent mood, so she switched off her mind to both of them without really thinking about it, and resumed staring out the window, her expression troubled.
It only took her about twenty seconds, then she jumped, and started scribbling on her arm, crossing out, examining, crossing out, more scribbling. Suddenly she looked at Chris. " No writing on yourself ever, mister. I'll have to go home and spank myself for this. " Of course she was only joking, but she hated showing her bad habits in front of chris. Capping the sharpie, she shoved it into her pocket and looked at Jason. " I think i just got the next set of lyrics i needed for my new song. " She sounded excited - and she was. Writing songs was her favourite thing to do - ever. She couldn't help it. Just the way the words flowed from her was effortless, the way the chords came together, piano and guitar, was beautiful. She expressed herself through her music - when she got upset or worried, she would play her guitar until her fingers were numb and blistered. She played her piano until the notes mixed together into one long blurred song. She played until the emotion ran dry. That was what she did, and nobody understood why.

---------------------------------------------------------------I HOPE IT NEVER ENDS I HOPE it lasts forever but when it does we can all pretend that it's been BETTER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN --------------------------------------------------------------- Chris said, turning around and walking backwards to face Stella. His son looked at him than turned back around. Jason didn't like to brag, but he was the master of Halo. His friends had yet to beat him. "You can't beat me at Halo. You can't." Jason said, shaking his head with a straight face. He was serious. He couldn't imagine her beating him. He chuckled a little when Stella said she was always hungry. He could relate. "Of course I have Dr. Pepper. It rocks." He said, taking out two cans for him and Stella. Chris shook his head and looked at the cans in digust. Jason laughed at Chris. "Chris hates it." He added, glancing at Chris, then looking at Stella. Oh yeah, she was into music. He nodded as she spoke. Wow, record company. "Nice! I smell a record deal." He said, clearly proud of her. She was cute and talented, you couldn't blame Jason for liking her. He continued eating his pizza. He looked over at Chris who seemed to be enjoying his pizza and Sprite. Then, he looked at Stella who was looking at him. He gave a charming smile, and... wait. Did Stella just... blush? He saw she was embarrassed as she looked down. He couldn't help but smirk. He still had it. Jason looked at Stella like she had three heads. Was she talking to him? Then, he let out a laugh. He wasn't laughing at her, but with her. Even though she wasn't laughing. Chris was smiling, but he didn't get why his dad was laughing. "Don't worry Stella. You'll get it." JD said, nodding at her. He was confident in her and supported her. He finished his pizza and soda. He threw his plate in the sink and can in the trash. No one had used their cups, only cans, so he put the cups back. He looked over at the plant that Stella was talking about. "Hey, I have more important things to do. I got bills to pay, mouths to feed." He defended himself, pointing to himself and Chris when saying "mouths to feed". He smiled a little, watching Stella water the plant for them and give it some sunlight. He turned around and saw Chris put his plate in the sink and can in the trash. He smiled at his son as Chris looked up at him. They both looked up as Stella raced out of the kitchen. Chris looked at her like she was crazy, but Jason knew this reaction. She just thought of something. He thought for a moment. Another word for empty.. "Clear." He said. "Unfilled!" Chris said. "Abandoned." Jason added. "Bare!" Chris called out another. JD looked down at his son with narrow eyes. "Uninhabited, unoccupied, vacant, void, deserted." He called out looking straight at Chris. Chris narrowed his eyes also. But after a few seconds he relaxed. "Eh. I got nothing." He shrugged. Jason laughed at his son and ruffled his hair, although he didn't have enough for it to look messy. Chris grinned. They watched as Stella scribbled on her arm with Sharpie. Jason laughed silently as Stella told Christopher to never write on himself and that she was going to spank herself when she got home. Hm. He'd like to watch that. Whoa, whoa. Inappropriate, Jason. Com'on now. Chris just nodded and walked past her into the living room. Then, she was done, telling Jason she had found new lyrics for her song. "Hm. I figured that was why you were running around my house like a crazy person." He joked walking towards her. "Let's go sit." He suggested and began walking into the living room. He plopped down on the long couch, expecting Stella to take a seat right next to him. He looked over at Chris to see him staring out the window. He didn't know what he was looking at though. His son turned to face him. "Let's go play basketball." He said, grinning. Jason was up for playing again. "Only if Stella wants to." He said smirking at Stella. "Com'on Stella. I'll go easy on you." Chris nodded, smiling. He was already heading over to where his sneakers were neatly placed. Let's go play basketball Stella looked between jason and chris, then back to Chris. " Maybe next time. I'm feeling to tired today, and i need to be up to my game if i'm going to beat you. " She smiled at him. " Why don't you go upstairs? " She didn't know if he would listen to her or not, but she turned to go sit by Jason, or rather across from him - no way was she going to muddle herself up again by being thisclose to him. She liked her brain to function properly. Leaning back into the worn armchair, she smiled at him. " And maybe one day i'll be brave enough to play you at Halo, yeah? " She would probably kick his butt. Not that she'd ever say that to him. She studied the house again, looking anywhere but his face. She didn't.. like how she felt about him. It was strange to her. Stella liked people, sure. But she didn't allow many people to get very close to her, and here Jason was with Chris, rooting their way to one of the front row seats in her heart. She hated how easily he had gotten there.
Because as she knew far too well, when you truly cared for some one, they were ripped away from you, leaving you in such misery, you beg god for the pain to end. You wonder how you heart could break in half again when it had never completed itself the first time. First her parents. Then Josh. Then her foster parents. Pain clutched at her chest, but she hid it well. Because she had to. She couldn't show anybody the pain she endured daily. She couldn't show that her losses made her want to cut so badly. She couldn't show that the impulses had come back. She wouldn't go back to that mental hospital. She hated it there. She wouldn't. And no matter how badly she wanted to, she wouldn't cut herself. Nothing could make her spend long empty hours in a blank room like she had after her parents died. didn't they understand when somebody is in pain, you can't take it away by adding on? Didn't the get that?
Somehow, she didn't think they did. She was suddenly aware she was back in Jason's house, not far back in the corners of her mind where she so rarely reached for fear of the agony that liked to rip her open. She did not like being in pain. She looked back at Jason to distract herself, before the misery set in again. She studied his face carefully, letting her mind drift away from unpleasant thoughts, and go blank, before she finally looked out a window, calm and serene again. How hard it was, to be alone with her pain. How easy it was to make it go away with Jason in the room. He was like her bandage - as long as he was around for her, she was sure she could hold together. She was sure she could stay positive and strive as long as he was close to her. She was very sure of that.
