* friday night they'll be dressed to kill,
the boys are back in town ., Working long hours behind a desk of the Lucas and Sons building in downtown Milwaukee could definitely be a draining day. Usually Evan got to work around nine or shortly thereafter--one of the perks of being the boss's son was setting your own hours--and worked until one o'clock, taking either a half an hour to an hour for lunch and then worked until his brain no longer functioned properly around six thirty or seven. Depending on hour busy they were, employees including Evan, had been known to pull all-nighters. But tonight was different. Tonight Evan would be grabbing a case of Milwaukee's own brew and a couple of pizzas and heading over the Fields' house. He had request off early, knowing that Jason would probably want Christopher in bed early, and so he headed off to Jason's house around seven. A boys night in watching the game.
Evan had known Jason Fields since he was twelve and had known Christopher since even before he was born. He had also known Colette. Though he almost never brought her up either of them and felt incredibly bad even saying her name around Christopher. Jason had always been one of the few people that he had remained friends with over the years. For Evan, friends had come and gone and only a few had remained, including Jason. And with Evan's lack finical status as it was, he usually found that his so-called friends never really felt any loyalties to him. If he wasn't shelling out money, than why else should they be friends with him? Or at least, that was how he had felt when he was younger, when he would make friends from bars and such. They would do anything he wanted or asked, so long as he was paying or they could profit. But Jason was different. Jason seemed to care less about his money and treated him like a "normal" everyday sap. Which is all Evan wanted. And his kind heart. But there was so much more to Jason than that. Evan always envied his friend as stronger than he was. Thinking back to what had happened to Colette, Evan knew he wouldn't have been able to handle things with such bravado.
Coming into Jason and Christopher's subdivision, Evan turned the radio down in his car and slowed down. Though he wasn't a crazed, road-rage driver, he had been known for getting two speeding tickets within two months. Luckily nothing had come of it, though. He had gone to traffic court and then had to take a class on "proper driving" techniques, but that had been last year. Pulling up in front of Jason's house and into the driveway, he put the case of Miller on top of the two pizza boxes. He had brought an over-sized chocolate cupcake for Christopher, which he had wrapped up in a brown paper bag, so he could hide it, which is what he usually did whenever he saw Christopher. He bought something for him then hide it and made Christoper guess what it was. Evan loved Christopher; thought of him like his own nephew. After all, he had known him his entire life. And Jason had done a remarkable job in raising him without Colette. Though not directly related, Evan always felt like an uncle to Christopher and had always been there to take care of Jason's son whenever he needed a babysitter. But it wasn't like Jason went out all that much.
Hearing the crunch of the grass beneath his shoes, he made it to the front door without spilled the beer, the pizza or the hidden cupcake as he rang the doorbell with his index finger. He could hear Christopher inside practically jumping and climbing up the walls and it only made Evan smile. It had been a few weeks since he had seen either Jason or Christopher and he had a feeling that Jason's son would have grown by leaps and bounds and would probably be able to outsmart him as well. "Ehhyo, Fields! The pizza's getting cold and Chris's present is about to get eaten!" he said with a smile, his voice giving off the illusion that he was impatient. Or at least it might convince Christopher, anyway.

OPEN UP YOUR MIND AND SEE LIKE ME, open up your plans and man you're free. _____________________________________ Jason had arrived at the Youth Crisis Center at 8am like usual. He usually got up around 6, showered, ate, woke up Chris to get ready for school, make him breakfast, then put him on the bus. Then, he was off to work. Jason walked in, punched in, and went to sit in his office. He did some paper work, then left his office to go hang out with the kids. That's what he did all day basically, hang out. But it wasn't as easy as it sounded. These kids weren't the easiest to get along with. They all had seperate problems. Running from home, taken in by DSS, trouble with the law, and more. They had to really know they could trust Jason before the let him watch a few minutes of t.v with them or play cards. But they still liked to try and cuss him out or yell for no reason. But JD didn't put up with that shit. He would yell back, and if that didn't work disciplinary actions would be taken.
A seventeen year old tried to punch him in the face once. He missed though, being drunk and all. Then, he ended up tackling Jason to the ground. Jason had to act like he was just trying to pull the kid off of himself, but he was getting a few hits in there also. You better believe that kid was transported out of there after that. He walked down the halls of the place, making sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to. There was the occasional Halloween decoration, since it was October. Today was a pretty mellow day. No fights, only one shouting match, no fleeing the center, nothing. It was definitely relaxing. JD went back in his office when 3:30 rolled around. He called his sister to make sure she had gotten Chris off the bus like he did everyday when he wasn't too busy. The phone conversation would never last too long, unless Chris wanted to talk to him. Today was one of those days. "Chris?" He said into the phone. "Dad, Uncle Evan is still coming over today, right?" Chris asked. Jason smiled a little. "Yeah, he is."He knew Chris was excited to see Evan again and hang out. Chris always liked a boy's night. His father did too. After a series of questions, he hung up with his son. Just an hour and a half left until he went home. He had requested to leave early for today. He left the office to go watch a movie with some of the teens. It definitely made time go by faster. As soon as the clock on his cell turned 5:00, he stood up. "Alright guys, I'm gone. See you tomorrow." About five of them asked where he was going. He told them. Like they always did, they suggested he bring Chris to the Center. They had seen the picture of Jason and Chris on his desk. "One day." was always his answer, but he didn't really like the idea. Chris was at that "monkey see monkey do" type stage. And he was sure the teens here would try and innocently put shit in Chris's head when Jason wasn't around. So that wouldn't happen. Maybe when he was older. Even though all the kids would probably be gone by then. Jason couldn't wait to get home and see Chris. The drive was only twenty minutes, but it seemed to be an hour. As he pulled into his driveway, he saw Chris's face in the window. He was waiting. Christopher's face lit up and he disappeared. About three seconds later he was outside racing towards the car. Jason grinned and turned the key. He stepped out and picked up Chris. His son was still really light. Jason placed his son on his shoulders. His sister walked out, her car keys and bag in hand. She smiled at them. How was your day? She asked Jason. He shrugged, which meant "nothing special". She got it and nodded. She said goodbye to the both of them and hopped in her car. The boys waved as she backed her car out of the driveway. She waved back before she sped down the street. Such a speed demon. JD looked up at Chris and Chris looked down at him. At the same time, they yelled "BOYS NIIIGHT!" Jason ran in the house. He had to duck a little when they walked through the door so Chris wouldn't bang his head. Jason kept the same clothes he had on at work, but Chris got comfortable. They both plopped down on the couch, scanning the channels. Then, the doorbell rang. Chris jumped around on the couch in excitement. "Uncle Evan!" He said excitedly. Jason looked at him like he was crazy. He was for jumping on the couch right in front of him. Jason gave him a push. "Hey. Don't jump on the couch." He said. Chris immediately stopped and ran for the door just as Jason was getting up. JD shook his head, Chris never let him open the door when he knew who it was. Chris heard Evan call out Chris's present and it was over. He swung open the door. "What present?" He said quickly, grinning. Jason came to the door and picked up Chris sideways and put him under his arm like he was a box. "Stop being greedy. How about a hello?" He said shaking his head. He looked up at Evan. "Hey man. I'll take that." He said smirking, of course taking the beer. "Hello, Uncle Evan. What present?" Chris spoke again, still being held by his dad sideways. Jason had almost forgot. He placed Chris down and began to walk down the hall towards the kitchen. "Well whatever it is. You can have it after dinner." Jason said over his shoulder. He took two beers out of the box before putting the rest in the fridge. Chris followed him and took out a can of Sprite for himself. "Let's eat." Chris said looking up at Jason and Evan. "Of course. We'll devour it in the living room while we watch some t.v." Jason suggested, following his son into the living room. ; 1041, wtf? thats my biggest post tag; evannn. outfit; thisss.song; drake <3 credits; template - becca.x of caution i'm yours, jason mraz for the song lyrics. notes; hey. i was just kind of babbling also. hence the thousand words.... * friday night they'll be dressed to kill,
the boys are back in town ., Still managing to hold the two cases of pizza, the beer and the bag with Chris' present, Evan smiled as he heard Chris jump up and down as Jason told him not to do so. Evan shook his head but with a smile. Back in the days before Christopher and Coslette, Jason hadn't been a completely different person, but he had been different. He had been much more carefree and easy-going, though not that he was a hard-ass now. It was simply the fatherly side that brought it out of him, and it was probably a a good thing. Jason was an excellent father, hands down. Christopher had turned out great and was a very good kid. The few times Jason went out on dates over the years or needed a night to himself and Evan would keep him, Christopher was always respectful and never did anything that he knew his father would not like. He just hoped he would stay that way during his teenage years.
The door swung open and Evan's face, along with Christopher's lit up. Evan was a big kid to begin with, so he felt that he didn't have to over react around Chris and try to be overly friendly just to get on Jason's good graces. Hell, most of the time it was Christopher who would tell Evan to act his age. "And hello to you too, Mister Fields. I found this," he said, letting Jason take the beer as he stepped inside and gave Jason a nod and a quick smile as a greeting, "while I was shopping and it practically had your name on it. So, you know the deal: you've gotta guess what it is, otherwise it goes home with me." he told him, stating the rules. Chris' answers were usually pretty good, but he had given Evan a few ones that were eyebrow-raise worthy over the years. Walking a little ways into the living room, he sat down on the little side couch so father and son could sit together, like he usually did whenever he came over.
Deciding he could no longer wait, he opened the boxes of pizza that he had placed on the table in front of the couch and took a slice, practically devouring it in two bites. Apparently he had been hungrier than he thought. "So how's life been, fellas?" he asked, extending a hand out for a beer as he saw Christopher's Sprite. "You've been keeping your dad on his toes I expect, eh?" he said to Christopher with a wink and a smile. Honestly and truly, Evan liked hanging out more with Christopher than most of the people his own age. At least with the six-year-old he could be more of himself without having to worry about how he would appear. And he had known Jason long enough that he knew Jason wouldn't care how he acted, so long as Evan didn't do anything to harm his son, which he never dreamed of, anyway.

OPEN UP YOUR MIND AND SEE LIKE ME, open up your plans and man you're free. _____________________________________ Chris thought hard about what his gift might be. He loved getting the answer right. Uhhh.... cookies! He said smiling. He hoped they were cookies. The ones with the huge chocolate chips in them just like he liked 'em. But, what if it wasn't even food? He shouted out another answer. A toy! He said with another smile. He didn't want his surprise to go back home with Evan. He was so eager. He plopped down on the couch right between Evan and Jason. He felt older when he was hanging out with older people. After Evan took his slice, Chris stood up and grabbed his own slice. He couldn't reach without getting up. Then, Jason took a slice. Chris was in the middle of chewing, but still answered Evan. Yes. He answered simply with a nod. Jason had to agree. "And his wise remarks are increasing everyday." He said, looking at Chris. The boy just shrugged his shoulders and continued to eat.
"But things are pretty good for us. He's really liking 1st grade." Jason continued, already finishing up his first slice of pizza. Chris nodded excitedly. We go outside everyday and they have good food and I got a 100 on my spelling test! He sputtered, this time without his mouth jammed with food. Jason was glad to see that Christopher really liked school. He knew that it wouldn't last long though. As soon as he would get to middle school, he would get lazy like his father did. "How about you, Evan?" Jason asked reaching for another slice, then looked over at Evan once it was in his hand. He took a few sips of his beer, then turned to his pizza and began to eat. It was a relaxing evening. Just him, Chris, and his long time friend Evan. He was one of the few that Jason still had after so long. He was fifteen when he met Evan. Evan was only twelve, but he was a cool kid. They had been close ever since. He was there when Colette died and Jason was on his own. Evan had helped him out, and Jason is forever thankful for that.
Chris was trying to eat fast for two reasons. One being he wanted his surprise. The other being that Evan and his dad had finished their first slice when he was only half way through his. He wanted to be just like them. Finally he was onto his second slice. He was pretty excited at this point. After this slice he would guess again for his surprise. His stomach could only take two slices. As soon as he swallowed his last piece, he looked up at Evan. Is it a brownie? cupcake? muffin? He asked all at once. Thinking of all of those made him crave all of them. Jason looked over to see if Christopher was right. He always liked to see how many guesses it took his son to get it. Usually it was pretty quick, he was good at guessing. JD himself wondered what it was since he didn't know. Though he wasn't nearly as excited as Chris was. ; tag; evannn. outfit; thisss.song; trey songz <3 credits; template - becca.x of caution i'm yours, jason mraz for the song lyrics. notes; its alright, mine sucky too. * friday night they'll be dressed to kill,
the boys are back in town ., Taking another slice after Jason and Christopher had each taken one, Evan smiled as he heard Chris' answers. He had to give the kid credit, he knew right away to start guessing food, seeing as how he usually brought some kind of edible thing to eat. "Nope, it's not a toy. But you were on the right track when you guessed cookies. It's got chocolate and you can eat it." he told Christopher as he looked from the television to Jason with a sly smile. He took a few sips of his brew before he answered Jason, thinking about his questions. He wondered if he should mention that he had run into Wynter Austin the other day at the zoo. But, they were all mutual friends here, and it wasn't like he had done anything wrong.
He laughed at Jason's remark about Christopher's "wise remarks". It was only a matter of time before he'd start doing that. Or, at least that's what Evan thought. "I suppose that's aimed toward me?" he joked. "I can't help it if the kid isn't boring like you. But, seriously, things are going well. Business is business. How's life with in crisis teens?" he asked. Jason's job required much more patience and know-how than Evan would probably ever posse. Sure, he was a friendly and caring guy, but get him in a room full of people under the age of eighteen, and he reverted back to his youthful ways of pranks and saying inappropriate things. Though, when the need to be serious arrived, Evan was more than capable. It was just, joking around and acting like a kid was just as much fun as being an adult.
Taking advantage of Chris being preoccupied with his pizza and trying to guess what he had gotten him, Evan decided to turn the mood serious. "So, how's life been for you? I'm sure it's hard, but is there anyone?" he asked, his timing with the commercials not exactly the best, but his words were soft and he had been looking directly at Jason in the hopes that Chris was still not paying attention to either of the grown ups. Evan always kicked himself for asking his friend such questions, but he was worried about him, too. It had been over six years since Jason had actually found someone besides Colette. Evan had, in the beginning, tried to set him up on dates, but the looks he received and the gripes and complains had stopped along with his attempts to set his friend up long ago. He simply figured when the right girl came along, he'd be ready. But, he still worried about him.
"I just worry about you, Jase. I want you and Chris to be happy is all." Evan said, taking another sip of his beer, nearly finishing it. "Heck, we all do. And, I know I probably have no right, seeing as I can't even get a girl myself, but ... you know. Little guy here needs a momma." he said, his tone half-serious and half-joking.

OPEN UP YOUR MIND AND SEE LIKE ME, open up your plans and man you're free. _____________________________________ Chris was glad to hear he was on the right track with food. And chocolate? He was in heaven just by the sound of the word. Well, it narrowed it down enough for him to get a couple of guesses in his mind. Jason looked over at Evan with a raised eyebrow. "First off, I'm not boring. Right, Chris?" He said, then looked down at Chris who nodded up at him. Jason knew that he could be boring at times, especially since Chris was born. But he couldn't exactly help it. He just didn't have time to do fun things without bringing Chris along or without work interfering. They didn't fit in, and it sucked. Then, he returned his focus to Evan. "But that all sounds good. The center is doing good, it can be tough, but it's good." He had no interesting stories at the moment to tell about the center. Nothing had really happened. It was the same old fights and screaming matches that happened everyday.
Jason let out a sigh. He knew it was going to come up at some point this evening. The girlfriend talk. He knew Evan was just concerned, but he would rather not talk about it. Especially when Chris was right there. It looked like Chris wasn't paying attention, but you never know. The kid was getting smarter by the second. He remembered when Evan would try to set him up on dates after Colette died. It was just one disaster after another. And finally to Jason's relief, Evan gave up. "Life is the same as it's always been. How about you? How's your life?" He answered, turning the question back on Evan. He didn't exactly have to answer, Jason just didn't want to answer the question. But he did wonder how Evan was doing when it came to the girls. He hadn't heard anything from Evan on the subject. Besides Jason needing a girl.
When Evan continued on, Jason knew he wasn't going to drop the subject. So, he thought he should probably talk about Violet. Now that he thought of it, he hadn't said anything about Violet and it had been a while since him and Violet had gone out together for the same time. "Hey, Chris. Why don't you take Evan's present into the kitchen?" Jason suggested, taking his eyes off Evan and giving Chris a little smile. Chris stood up a extended his hand out towards Evan, telling him to hand it over. "Thanks, Uncle Evan." He said, then made his way into the kitchen. Once Chris was out of sight, Jason turned to Evan. "Listen. I know your looking out for me and Chris and I appreciate it. But I've got it covered. Trust me, it bothers me too that I don't have a girl. But besides, I met someone." He said with a little smile. It made him happy just thinking about Violet. She was beautiful, smart, sweet, and both him and Chris were fond of her.
In fact, next week they had made plans for Jason to go over Violet's house. That reminded him that he needed to find a babysitter for Chris that night. Hm, looked like Evan was the lucky winner. "That reminds me, I need you to babysit next week." He said to Evan. He finished off his beer then placed the empty bottle on the table in front of him. He looked at the pizza, not sure if he wanted another slice. He decided against it, he didn't really want anymore. "I'm sure you don't have any plans next friday night, right?" He said smirking. ; 603 tag; evannn. outfit; thisss.song; rihanna<3 credits; template - becca.x of caution i'm yours, jason mraz for the song lyrics. notes; that you did... haha. [/ul]
